My Father had fancied his chance as a singer when a boy. He used to sing little songs during the reel changes of the silent movies. He was accompanied by a lady on the piano. All went well, he earned 5 shillings a week, until his voice broke and he had to stop.
Father taught me several of the songs. Turns out he had his own version of the words. One song was-
It makes me sick
To think a girl like me can't click.
I wish somebody would
Come around and take me in the wood.
I've got my eye on one man
and I'm waiting patiently for him to call.
He's the man that cuts the ivy
On the old garden wall

Is this an introduction to a more well known song? I can never find it anywhere. Is it a suitable song to teach a 7 yr old child especially in the 1950s? Of course my all time favourites are H&B.
I'm not confident that Dad would have liked Hinge and Bracket he probably wouldn't have been able to see beyond them being a couple of blokes dressed up. He would have loved their music.
